Listed below are 10 hazards that can threaten the function of your computer system, fax machine, etc.  If any of the following are not in place, your business investments are not protected.  I, as your consultant, will assist you in order to implement what is necessary to protect you and your business.

 1)      Anti-virus software

a)      Do you have anti-virus software running on all computers that have access to the internet?

b)      Do you have anti-virus software running on all computers that have floppy disks or CD’s read from them?

c)      Do you update the definitions at least once a month?

 2)      Firewall

a)      Do you have a firewall in place to protect yourself against risks while on the internet?

 3)      Battery backups / surge strips

a)      Is all of your electronic equipment, protected against electrical surges from the power outlets?

b)      Is all of your electronic equipment, which is hooked up to the phone lines protected against surges that can come through the phone lines?

c)      Are your most important pieces of equipment protected against power outages?

 4)      Backups

a)      Do you do daily backups of your servers?

b)      Are you storing data on local workstations that are not being backed up?

c)      Do you have multiple backup media to recover from?

d)      Are you taking precautions with the media in case there is a fire or theft at the office?

e)      Are you using the most economical media for your backups?

 5)      Remote Access

a)      Are you using PCAnywhere or similar software that could be leaving you open to hackers via your internet connection?

 6)      Shutting down / Restarting servers

a)      Do you shut down and restart your server often to assure the highest performance possible?

 7)      Security / Passwords

a)      Do you have security / passwords setup on your system to prevent unwanted users from accessing your data, programs and folders?

 8)      Disaster Recovery Plan

a)      Do you have a plan in case of a system failure?

b)      Do you have a plan in case of a theft, fire, etc.?

 9)      Software

a)      Is your email software up to date with the latest patches?

b)      Is your windows software up to date with the latest patches?

 10)   Workstation maintenance

a)      Do you regularly run error checking on each workstation?

b)      Do you regularly run defragmenting programs on each workstation?

 

Have you considered these items for your home and office?

Have you considered these items for your laptop and desktop computers?
